Description

DEFRA will use the Batteries Review to explore ways to minimise portable batteries going to landfill, encourage collection and treatment of Batteries (re-use, recycle, safe disposal) through EPR (including providing a supportive framework for the development of processing infrastructure), to correct the inequal treatment of producers selling in the UK with those selling through online market platforms, maximise value from our resources and minimise waste through the circular use of materials and to retain Critical Raw Materials (CRMs).
The objective of this research project is to gather quantitative evidence and explore ways of increasing collection and proper treatment of portable batteries, consider revisions to the producer responsibility obligations for industrial (including electric vehicle) and automotive batteries and other measures to support a circular economy for batteries.
The aim of the research is to gather quantitative evidence needed for the Impact Assessment of the Batteries Reform.
