Description

The Laboratory Services at BTP Scientific Support Unit are responsible for the running of the Fingerprint Enhancement Laboratory (FEL). The FEL core activity is to examine items and chemically treat them to develop any latent ridge detail present, any ridge detail is then photographed and submitted for fingerprint assessment.
The FEL utilises the Digital Capture System 5 (DCS5) from Foster and Freeman to visualise, record and enhance images of friction ridge detail developed on exhibits submitted. The FEL have been successfully using the DCS for many years but requires the system to be upgraded, to include new processes like IR and UV and add flexibility to the capturing of images within the Laboratory and at scenes.
