Description

All weirs in the Thames area (45 sites/complexes) which use wire ropes (stainless steel) and suitable shackles to lift and lower gates during operation and maintenance, require routine wire rope replacement. Each site requires replacement every 4 years in a rolling programme of c. 10-12 multi-weir sites per year. The replacement requires the manufacture of gate specific wire ropes, built to individual asset specifications of length, thickness, working load limits, ends (e.g. hard eye, swaged studs, fused and tapered) and shackle type. Once manufactured, these must be delivered to the EA Depot for our framework diving contractor who will install them. The ropes must be provided with appropriate certification to assure the quality meets the specification and that the ropes have been fully tested to meet working load limits. The manufacturer will need to work with the EA to confirm the compatibility of the specifications required, deliver ropes in the installation window across Spring, Summer and Autumn each year of the contract for the relevant sites and work with the EA contract coordinator to measure performance of the contract.

In 2022-23, there are c. 15 weirs in programme requiring production, totalling 124 no. ropes, varying from 6100mm length to 9600mm length. (see attached Specification)
