Description

Background Information

This opportunity is advertised by Defra group Commercial on behalf of Defra's Marine and Fisheries Directorate. This work is driven and embodies the Directorates main goals for a protected, recovering and valued marine environment, achieving Good Environmental Status. A responsible and independent coastal state which maximises post EU opportunities across the UK and for thriving UK Seafood industries which are economically, socially, and environmentally sustainable.

Requirement

The principal requirement of this project is to investigate incidences of bycatch of sensitive species which include cetaceans (whales, dolphins and porpoise), seabirds, seals, elasmobranchs (sharks, skates and rays) and turtles. The core of the programme will be England focussed but this may expand with Devolved Administration involvement.

We are looking for a supplier that demonstrates they have the necessary skills and experience to complete all aspects of the work. The Authority believes there could be advantages to having many experts and organisations working together on this contract and therefore would consider a consortium approach but this is not a necessity, if the provider can demonstrate they have the staff, skills and business continuity to deliver the contract effectively

It is envisaged that this contract will run for a period of 3 years (pilot contract) by way of 3 x 12 monthly increments, one initial 12-month term, followed by two subsequent 12-month extension options. If the pilot contract is successful, then the Authority envisages letting a new, longer-term, 10-year contract (by open competition) to take its place.

If you are already providing this type of service or can do so and are interested in applying, please view the opportunity further on Bravo. Link in description.
