Description

Place Based GP Speciality Training pilots are part of a proposed rethink of GPST that considers what it is to be a modern GP, how to prepare GPs for future, changing practice and to support place-based community practice and multidisciplinary team-based learning. Place-based pilots present an opportunity to move to a more flexible model of training that recognises the needs, skills and experiences of the trainee and the needs and nuances of local populations. Overall, the aims of the pilot schemes are to develop a new model to improve both the training of new GPs and their retention within the area in which they train, providing a longer-term commitment to local communities.

An evaluation of place based GP Speciality Training (GPST) training pilots in England addressing the specific key questions as part of the evaluation are:
• How the place base pilots have changed the learner experience?
• What influence does it have on current HEE programmes for GP training?
• What influence does it have on the experience of place?
Upon evaluation we expect there will be a joint HEE published/production of a paper which informs and potentially develops placed-based GPST training programmes in England.
