Description

Bude-Stratton Town Council are seeking a suitably experienced and qualified building contractor to undertake the dismantlement, movement and rebuild of a grade II listed stone Folly / Tower on the land above Bude harbour known as 'Compass Point'.

'The Compass Point Project' aims to move this heritage structure approximately 100m inland on the same headland away from the edge of the cliff. The land itself is protected grassland, subject to SSSI and SAC constraints and the contractor will need to abide by the rules of the Construction Environmental Management Plan drafted to minimise damage by construction works.

Tenders will be assessed on price, relevant experience, method and programme, with works starting as soon as the weather allows, preferably by Easter 2023, with completion by the end of Autumn 2023 ideally. Given the location of the site, consideration should be allowed within the programme for adverse weather and additional site safety.

The site is popular with the visiting public and community interest in this project is very high locally and further afield as an exemplar example of saving coastal heritage from the effects of climate change. The Contractor will be expected to provide a proactive approach to community days where the local schools and public will be given controlled access to witness key parts of the dismantling and rebuild activities.

The project is supported by a local Crowd Funder initiative and grants from the National Lottery Heritage Fund, Cornwall Council and Bude-Stratton Town Council.

Please email accounts@bude-stratton.gov.uk expressing an interest and you will be provided with the tender pack to complete and return.
