Description
The Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea is conducting a tender process to engage an organization to deliver a Maternity Champions Project for Kensington and Chelsea. The project will run for up to four years, has a value in the region of £200,000 to £240,000 in total, and will be delivered across all of the existing Community Champions projects within the borough.
The aim of the project is recruit a borough wide coordinator (based within an existing Champions project) to work with all existing champions projects in the boroughs, to develop the capacity of local people and services to promote maternity health and wellbeing and reduce inequalities, by recruiting local people to train as Maternity Champion volunteers.
The key objectives of the project are to develop a borough wide team of Maternity Champions based in Community Champions' projects to support parents (ante and post natal), and children up to one year old; to ensure relevant training is made available to all Maternity Champions; to improve access to local maternity health and wellbeing services (including mental health), particularly through proactive community outreach contact, information, and signposting to local services; to increase Early Intervention, Health Promotion and Behaviour Change, through local relevant Public Health programmes, peer education and self-management; to build social capital (building confidence, improving mental wellbeing, reducing isolation, peer support groups, and promoting community cohesion) through community events; to increase skills and competencies of Maternity Champions through personal and professional development, training and supporting access to return to work/preparation for employment where desired.
