Aims and objectives of service

Dermatology

The objectives of the service are to :-
• Ensure patients are seen and treated in an environment most appropriate to their needs.
 Be responsive to the individual, including those with special needs, e.g. learning disabilities or visual impairment
• Educate patients with long term skin conditions so that they understand the causes, trigger factors and lifestyle choices available to them
• Empower patients to manage their condition independently, knowing when to seek further help, thus reducing their need for specialist care
• Ensure a child-friendly environment and flexible appointment system to meet the needs of patients and carers
• Ensure joined up, clinically effective patient care and pathways across the whole health community.
• Facilitate the development of innovative approaches to service provision such as email consultations, tele-dermatology text, phone or web based solutions
• Deliver a service which has the ability to flex its resource base to meet capacity
• Deliver appropriate referrals into specialist providers.

Aims and objectives of service

BCC

The aim of the service is to commission a diagnosis and treatment service for low risk BCC.

The Improving Outcomes for People with Skin Tumours including Melanoma, NICE guidance on Cancer Services stipulates the models of care for clinical triage of BCC's. For the purpose of this service specification Model 1 Practitioners has been selected.

The services will:
• Ensure equitable, timely and appropriate access
• Provide services that are the best value for money
• Ensure patients are seen and treated in a safe environment most appropriate to their care needs
• Deliver a cohesive and seamless pathway based on patient need
• Facilitate the shift of services closer to home through development and innovation
• Provide a streamlined patient referral processes
