Project Details: Music Practices

Scope:

To Provide Music services to inmates of HMP Brixton and HMP Wormwood Scrubs. Sessions will focus on live music, instrument learning, music appreciation, song writing and performance; and are successful in engaging and increasing the motivation of hard-to-reach individuals including those accessing mental health services.

Improved relationships in prison with other prisoners, prison staff and family members on the outside.
Increased skills associated with employability such as communication, team work, self-expression, negotiation and commitment
Increased wellbeing including self-esteem and self-confidence;
Increased motivation, aspiration and hope, and interest in engaging more positively with their sentence plans, mental health treatments, and other activities

Requirements

How long for each session - 1 hour and a half to 2 hours - one in the morning 9:00-11:00, and one in the afternoon slot 2:00-3:30

How many sessions in a day - 2 group sessions per day

How many people attend - ideally 5-8 prisoners (depending on the need in the group)

If there is no officer present, the music facilitator will carry out shorter 1:1 sessions on the wing, with prisoners who were meant to come to the group.

Contract Period: until 31st March 2026

KPIs:

100% of sessions to be completed in the timeframe given.
