Description

The construction, chemicals, (including plastics) and metals sectors are very important parts of the UK economy. Research into resource use efficiency over the last 10 or so years has repeatedly found that the three sectors offer significant opportunities for improvements in material efficiency. However, a key data gap is how the 'size of the prize' varies within each of the three sectors, in economic and environmental terms and how the barriers and appropriate role of policy is helping to realise those opportunities.
This work will necessitate close engagement with the construction, chemical and metals sub-sectors, but there is an information gap that only publically funded work can fill.

The overall aim, to identify the sub-sectors with the greatest opportunities for more efficiency with material use, the potential economic and environmental benefits and costs.
