Description
The project will see replacement of the existing modular accommodation that houses the current complex needs SEND (Special Education Needs and Disabilities) unit with purpose build permanent accommodation for 40 SEND primary pupils. In addition, the School has agreed to provide Slough with 3 bulge classes for in-year growth from new arrivals to the town. Based on a capacity review of the current school accommodation, 2 additional classrooms are required to accommodate these new bulge classes.
The proposed complex needs SEND unit will accommodate 40 primary pupils and 40 members of staff and will comprise 4 classrooms, including 2 additional classrooms as bulge classes for Junior age pupils. The single-storey development (approx. 41.7m x 23.8m) will provide various facilities including Classrooms, Multi-purpose Hall, Toilets, Sensory and Therapy room, Administration Offices, Circulation Spaces and a fully serviceable kitchen catering for up to 40 pupils. It comprises the design, erection and handover of a purpose-built extension including mains drainage and utility installations together with associated external works and landscaping.
The extension will be of brick design with matching windows and roofs to tie in with the design of the existing School. There will be an external play area in keeping with the existing School landscape and there may be a need to remove some mature trees for the proposed extension. This will be compensated for within the associated landscaping works. Separate entrance/exit for drop-off and pick-up points will be constructed for the proposed extension.
