Under Regulation 32(2)(b)(ii) of the Public Contracts Regulations 2015 Competition is absent for technical reasons. Steinway and Sons produce pianos involving 126 patents that unrivalled in their tone and action. The All-Steinway-School Programme, which the University of Sheffield is intending to join with this purchase is completely unique, both in terms of the quality and quantity of pianos supplied and in terms of the follow up technical and educational support. Steinway and Sons offer the ideal mix of top-end bespoke hand made grand pianos and Steinway-designed factory produced uprights and grands for teaching and practice purposes. Additionally, in order for the University to obtain the all-steinway-school accreditation,they are the only provider who can maintain our existing instrumentation to the standard required to obtain that accreditation
