Description

A hydrometric cableway is any bank supported aerial conveying system suspended above a waterway. Such systems consist of a winch, pulley and cable system that is supported across a river by two metal towers or stanchions; they allow flow and gauging equipment to be traversed across a river so that the Environment Agency can take measurements or water depth and velocity; such measurements are then used to calculate the flow or discharge of the river.

The Environment Agency is intending to produce a contract for inspections and servicing of all its cableways installations. All cableways are to be inspected, serviced and load tested annually in accordance with the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998 (PUWER) and BS EN ISO 4375:2014

This contract will cover the whole of the Environment Agency's cableways asset base, spread across England.
