Description

The proposed works comprise demolition of existing reinforced concrete bankseats of footbridge (existing footbridge has been removed previously), construction of reinforced concrete bankseats for replacement cycle bridge and fabrication and installation of a steel truss cycle bridge. The proposed footbridge is to be adjacent to Kingston Railway Bridge and is to bear on to the existing Network Rail abutments that are used by Kingston Railway Bridge.
The existing footbridge currently bears on to the existing Network Rail abutments. It has been shown through a load assessment that the proposed bridge is to impose a lower load on the existing Network Rail abutments, for the following load cases,
• Permanent only
• Permanent and live loading
The design of the proposed cycle bridge has incorporated suitable and safe methods of construction. This will minimise any impact to Network Rail infrastructure. This includes off site fabrication of the superstructure in factory conditions, which reduces work on site and, in particular, work at height.
It is intended that the steel truss is transported to site in one piece and then lifted into place in one piece.
The purpose of this contract package is appoint a principal contractor to finalise contractor designed elements (primarily steelwork connections); to undertake the adaptation of existing bridge foundations, civil works to the substructure, fabricate and undertake all ancillary tasks of steelwork system to the cycle bridge, transport the bridge from off-site fabrication facilities to the site in Kingston and installation. The principal contractor will have the responsibility of all coordination, permitting approvals with stakeholders, including being certified a Network Rail approved for the craning and civil works in close proximity of a railway bridge.
