Description

Invitation to tender for the repair of sections of the Limestone Road at Thorne Moors, Natural England including the ordering, supply and taking delivery of hard core materials to do the work.

Complete essential maintenance of tracks at National Nature Reserve (NNR) to ensure it is safe for visitors, staff and contractors; and to enable important habitat management works to be carried out to safeguard and enhance the SSSI/SAC features.

A more level road for vehicles and walkers able to withstand use in-between annual minor repair schedules (in house) in the future.

The ideal will be to remove the current pot holes so water does not stand on road and resulting passing of vehicles does not take materials with wash out.

Material is limited on the NNR so as not to pollute the acidic habitat of the Moors - a peat bog. Material that has best been used to fix in the past has been granite at 40mm down to dust although alternatives can be suggested by the supplier winning the contract if they feel an equally or superior material is identified. Materials should be non-alkaline, so not limestone, and not crushed brick/building rubble (which contains cement).
