Description

The National Autism Peer Education Programme overarching aim is to provide autism education and training to families, carers, and personal assistants, and any other identified and agreed parties delivered in partnership by peer educators and subject matter experts.
This work will directly underpin the aims as set out in the Department of Health and Social Care National Strategy for Autistic Children, Young People and Adults, NHS Long Term Plan and Building the Right Support. Specifically, it will support: -
(i) tackle heath inequalities - by upskilling parents, carers and personal assistants, of autistic people through access to high-quality peer education/training resources covering relevant autism-related topics.
(ii) improve community support for autistic people - by developing high-quality training for families and carers of autistic people delivered by peer educators supported by subject matter experts and educationalists. Trained peer educators (autistic people, parents and carers) will deliver the education in local areas. Thereby building skills and capability within local communities regarding autism and the skills to train other families and carers.
