Description

Gastrointestinal endoscopy is the direct visualisation of the gastrointestinal tract. Gastrointestinal endoscopy is used for diagnosis and treatment of gastroenterology disorders. Patients will have their diagnostic procedure in a locally accessed environment that meets legislative requirements.

The aim of the service is to aid early diagnostics, avoid the need for unnecessary referral to secondary care and to support the delivery of activity in the community setting where this will improve access.
The service will have the following aims, providing services for patients that:
- Follow evidence-based guidelines and good practice points for standards of care
- Are timely and patient-centred providing the most appropriate method of treatment for each patient
- Are high quality, sustainable, value for money and affordable
The service will have the following objectives:
a. To operate well planned and clearly articulated care pathways covering defined presentations and conditions delivering safe, evidence-based care
b. To ensure diagnostic tests are appropriate, necessary, clinically correct, of high quality with timely access and reporting
c. To promote awareness, knowledge and implementation of clinical guidance for care of defined gastroenterological conditions amongst healthcare professionals
d. To work collaboratively with other providers to ensure that transfer of care protocols are in place that ensure that service users have a seamless pathway of care
