Description
NWL CCG requires a community ophthalmology service for adults with eye conditions that do not require input from the hospital eye service. This may include, but is not exclusive to, minor eye conditions (including red eye, floaters etc); pre- and post-operative care for routine procedures (e.g. simple cataracts); referral refinement and extended diagnostics prior to hospital referral; and management of patients with stable long-term eyecare conditions (e.g. stable glaucoma). Users require rapid and local access to professional advice and support.
Key services required by the provider include:
- Diagnostics and monitoring using specialist ophthalmic equipment;
- Counselling and support in shared decision making;
- Treatment/prescribing for minor conditions; and
- Onward referral to a specialist hospital eye service if required.
The CCG has a contract with BMI Healthcare Ltd (Brent Borough) with a value of £1,440,000.00, and with Operose (Ealing Borough) with a value of £682,275.00, to provide the services. The CCG is currently reviewing the needs of the service users to consider how (if relevant) it can:
- Develop an integrated community ophthalmology NWL-wide service, to ensure consistent provision.
- Improve the use of digital data transfer.
- Improve adoption of shared decision-making tools and extended use of optometrists.
NWL CCG is considering options for making future arrangements for these services which may involve looking to tender the opportunity in the future. Any capable provider may come forward by 3rd March 2022 to engage with the CCG.
During 2022, it is anticipated that NWL CCG will be succeeded by an Integrated Care Board (ICB). Any future contract and/or procurement opportunity may therefore be in the name of the ICB.
