Description

Plymouth City Council ('The Council') would like to invite you to provide a tender for VAWG Bystander Training.

The Plymouth Serious Violence Prevention Strategy and Model for Violence Prevention proposes multiple and reinforcing approaches to address both the drivers of violence and respond to the harm caused by violence. It centres the importance of challenging harmful cultural and social norms around violence and invites everyone to be ambassadors of violence prevention. One of the recognised vehicles for supporting this challenge is through encouraging people in local communities, workplaces, schools, and other settings to be active bystanders.

An active bystander is someone who interrupts and challenges inappropriate, discriminatory, or threatening behaviour. Intervening can take many forms including choosing not to join in with sexist 'banter', to challenging racist social media posts, to offering support to people after witnessing harassment and bullying. Through intervening, we signal to each other our shared values and what are acceptable behaviours. When these messages are constantly re-enforced, we discourage negative behaviours, cultivate positive behaviours, and build community. Over time we collectively shift cultural and social norms.

The Violence Against Women and Girls Bystander Training Programme will support the delivery of the Plymouth Serious Violence and Domestic Abuse and Sexual Violence Strategies.

To apply for this opportunity please go to https://www.supplyingthesouthwest.org.uk/ and look up VAWG Bystander Training under Plymouth City Council opportunities.
