Description

This specification has been designed to reflect local need and evidence from research into 'what works' to improve outcomes for children and young people in Luton. All services commissioned by the Council will adopt the principle of positive engagement with providers outlined within the specification.

The service will contribute to the objectives and outcomes prioritised in the Luton Corporate Plan 2021-2023 'which outlines our comprehensive, whole system approach to developing and improving children's services and identified key areas to make a real difference for children: by making Luton a child friendly town, where our children and young people grow up feeling happy, healthy and secure, with a voice that matters and the opportunities they need to thrive.

National context
There are a limited number of junior safeguarding board's across the uk. Each board is made up of local young people who get involved with safeguarding activities and decisions. The aim of the board is to give children and young people a voice which is reflected in safeguarding business and activities, empowering young people to contribute to the processes and methods to keep them safe, and to increase awareness of safeguarding amongst parents and professionals.

The boards find out what issues matter to young people in their area on such topics as: staying safe, extremism and terrorism, bullying, drugs and alcohol, violence in relationships
