Description

The British Council has developed a new strategic framework setting out its vision to 2025 and beyond for A more connected and trusted UK in a more connected and trusting world. Central to this strategy is to create international opportunities that deliver on the promise and potential of people from communities, cities and countries across the whole of the UK. Its Internationalism strategy aims to develop the policies, frameworks, thought leadership and networks to dramatically increase the number of children and young people benefitting from international and intercultural connections and skills, whether that is through opportunities to study, work or volunteer abroad, or opportunities at home through digital connections and engagement with people of other cultures in the UK. The primary focus of this work is to support less advantaged and under-represented communities in the British Council's current portfolio of programmes, and to demonstrate the role of internationalism in promoting both individual and community wellbeing and prosperity.

The purpose of this project is to strengthen our understanding of where international and intercultural engagement currently exists in the UK, and to develop the system(s) to map progress over time. The project requires both the technical capacity to develop an interactive map that can report activity by place, activity or programme, as well as the research capacity to identify key trends for young people, international and intercultural connections, and levelling up across the whole of the UK.
The project will have two main outcomes:
- produce an interactive 'Map' of the UK that will capture and present data of international and intercultural activities from both British Council and other partners of the Internationalism Alliance.
- Produce analysis of up to 10 UK locations that examine young peoples' opportunity for international and intercultural connections, alongside metrics relating to individual and community wellbeing and prosperity (levelling up), through the use of desk research, youth perception surveys, and interviews.
