Description

The Survivable Power Enhancement (SPE) consists of three diesel engines and is designed to provide a secondary source of power for the Solid State Phased Array Radar (SSPAR). Currently a number of significant engineering issues exist. These fundamentally affect its ability to safely and effectively provide standby power for operations. In addition these issues, compounded by inadequate planning during the original design and installation, make verification of the SPE's ability to restart and sustain radar operation difficult. Consequently in the event of main power failure, the correct and safe operation of the SPE under radar load cannot be assured.

The successful contractor will undertake the following tasks:
1. Conduct a study into the SPE and associated systems.
2. Report findings and proposed solutions (including costs).
