Description
The Police and Crime Commissioner for South Wales are required under the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations and specifically under Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations 2002 (As amended) Regulation 7 paragraph 6(f) to provide vaccination and immunity testing, free of charge to employees likely to be exposed to pathogens in their work.
At present, all Staff deemed at risk are required to be tested for immunity to Hepatitis B and have a course of Hepatitis B Vaccinations.
The process the force undertake is as follows -
• All new staff deemed to be at risk require a course of three vaccines over a 6-month period. After the 6-month period, a blood sample is required for testing the immunity to Hepatitis B.
• All Staff deemed at risk give a blood sample every 5-years from the initial course and if a low level of immunity is recorded following a titre test, a booster Injection of the vaccine is provided to the Commissioner's Staff.
