Description

This procurement is for a CAVE (Cave Automatic Virtual Environment) Equipment and Software - Design, Supply, Installation and Maintenance Services framework agreement for Birkbeck, University of London ("Birkbeck"). See www.bbk.ac.uk for further information about Birkbeck.

Birkbeck, University of London is looking to award a single provider framework agreement for CAVE Equipment and Software - Design, Supply, Installation and Maintenance Services, including Motion Capture facilities.

The Toddlerlab will provide a world-first ground breaking facility for the study of toddlers with autism and other developmental conditions. The facility has funding in place by the Maurice Wohl Charitable Foundation and the Wolfson Foundation. The research will provide large-scale studies into understanding the different ways a toddler's brain processes stimuli. This will be created in a series of true-to-life environments to allow for as natural a social interaction to take place as possible. The Toddlerlab facility will expand on Birkbeck's Department of Psychological Sciences current research by focusing on the first four years of a child's life, which is currently a black hole in the study of development because of the difficulty in studying this age group. True-to-life environments are to be created in the new facility such as home environments, pre-school, sleep laboratories and a 'CAVE' laboratory, where AV equipment can create an interactive immersive environment of virtual indoor or outdoor scenarios. The Toddlerlab will take on board the latest technologies to digitally track eye gaze, movement and brain function. This framework will provide the option for call-offs in respect of the Toddlerlab CAVE and other requirements such as content development and compatible Motion Capture systems for other areas of the Toddlerlab, or wider facilities across Birkbeck should they arise during the lifetime of the framework. Bidders must be able to demonstrate previous experience in the design, supply, installation and maintenance of CAVEs, either directly or via their named supply chains.
