The University of Birmingham invites tenders for supply of a bespoke lithium ion battery testing chamber. This unit will be used to shred lithium ion cells designed for use in Electric Vehicles in a range of conditions (new and end-of-life). The overall requirements of the test chamber are defined below but we would like as part of the project to build strong partnerships with the technology providers so that we can secure the supply of a system that can be adopted for a range of battery testing applications.
The test chamber should provide safe working conditions for shredding lithium ion cells and modules from Electric Vehicles. In addition, it should have fully CE compliant for these activities. The test chamber should consist of two compartments, an observation and control area separated by a partition that provides isolation and protection from events in the working chamber. A shredder, provided by others, will be installed in the working chamber and this will either, operated and fed, by a person in the working area, or by a semi or fully automated robotic arm.
Shredder dimensions: 1900mm high, 850mm wide, 1300mm long, 750kg.
In addition to being used to shred cells/modules the test chamber will also be used for other battery testing processes.
