Description

The Council is also seeking to attract new investment in an NPR station within the city centre and also working with partners on a new mass transit system for West Yorkshire, supporting significant improvements in cycling, walking and public transport infrastructure, tackling poor air quality through a proposed new chargeable Clean Air Zone (CAZ) and currently has a pipeline of strategic transport projects undergoing business case development including Transforming Cities Fund (TCF) schemes, City Region Sustainable Transport Settlements (CRSTS), Corridor Improvement Programme (CIP) schemes, West Yorkshire Transport Fund + (WYTF+) schemes and two new road schemes in abeyance, Shipley Eastern Bypass and South East Bradford Access Road (SEBAR). However, since the completion of the Hard Ings Road improvement scheme in 2020, there are no outstanding plans for highways in Keighley. The Planning, Transportation and Highways division of the Council considers that a forward plan is needed for the highways network in the town. This plan will need to focus on the development of public transport and active travel to cement these as the first choice for local and longer-distance journeys. Previous work has identified deficiencies in the pedestrian environment and funding of approximately £1.2m has been secured for some improvements, which are expected to be centred on Cavendish Street
