Instead of: The Space Technology Applications from Research (STAR) project at the University of Leicester requires a five axis vertical machining centre, suitable for the manufacture of precision components made from various grades of stainless steels/steels, aluminium alloys, brass, copper molybdenum and other materials, using high speeds and feeds. The machine is to support a wide range of research groups and projects to produce components of high accuracy for space flight and other areas of engineering based research.

The contract is part funded by a European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) grant award.
