The UK Government has vital discussions with current and potential inward investors in important economic sectors. This includes automotive firms who have economically and socially important regional presence supporting jobs are a plank of our forward looking industrial strategy and are a key part our efforts to ensure competitive and innovative advanced manufacturing develops in the UK.

We rely on a wide pool of intelligence and insight to support Ministers in these commercial discussions - and have used consultants on previous major projects. Without additional commercial insights and expertise, HMG must rely on the views of industry alone to judge the risks and opportunities for UK plc on specific investment decisions.

In deepening our understanding of auto firm's decision drivers and trends in the current context, we have already drawn on the expertise from a wide number of internal staff to build our current picture:
• The relationship managers and senior staff with insights into the automotive industry and individual firms.
• Government's industrial and economic analysts
• Close working with manufacturing academics
• Procured market leading auto data from key data sources.
• Close working with government colleagues with expertise in trade, new technology and EU regulations.

This requirement will require the supplier to lend further insight to several aspects of a global automotive firm's upcoming decision making process, including company model, R&D and investment strategy. The three fundamental elements are:

• Considering the wider context, a global auto company's likely long term EU strategy, including opportunities and challenges around electrification and platforms
• Benchmarking internal competitiveness of international production sites, and considering how the UK compares
• How Brexit specifically might affect these decisions in the short and longer term.
