Description

The National Coal Mining Museum for England was recently awarded a grant through the Heritage Lottery Fund, to both redevelop the welcome area and visitor entranceway and also to improve and redesign wayfaring and signage across the site.

An important element of this project is the planned creation of audio visual media for use in both website content and on site displays and exhibit spaces. As part of the application process a design company was appointed to work with the National Coal Mining Museum for England to develop the strategy and draft an implementation plan, the scope of this did not include the concept for these audio visual media pieces.

We are looking to work with a partner to develop a concept based on set themes, produce, edit and publish a suite of audio visual media pieces to build into the designed implementation plan. The National Coal Mining for England requires delivery partners that will facilitate the achievement of this vision in an open manner and with mutual trust and co-operation.

The scope of the project is to create two audio visual exhibit pieces, under the titles This is Coal and The National Coal Mining Museum for England which would serve as a welcome or introduction piece. In addition there would be the creation of seven talking heads to introduce areas of the site or particular pieces of interest.

As these media pieces may be used to support our website content in addition to being employed on the physical site they must be understandable, approachable and engaging regardless of the setting in which they are experienced. The awarded supplier will be expected to create a concept, style and accepted form for these audio visual presentations and make use of focus or consultancy groups external to themselves and the museum to ensure successful delivery of the required presentations.

The audio visual presentations are intended to be used as featured elements of our visitor centre and hub redevelopment. As a result some allowances may need to be taken for this. The degree of this shall be managed by our internal project management function.
