Description

Historic England has a commitment to become Net Zero and to support heritage organisations on their own journeys to Net Zero. To support this initiative, Historic England wishes to roll out Carbon Literacy training, both to organisations in the heritage sector and its own staff over the next two years.
Historic England seeks to engage around 6 trainers for the delivery of this training over a four-year period. There will be three possible versions of the course depending on audience needs. (see section 1 for course definitions).
1 The training courses to be delivered:
a Heritage Carbon Literacy course
This course is primarily aimed at heritage organisations in the sector.
Historic England has developed with partners a Heritage Carbon Literacy training course that is accredited by the Carbon Literacy Project (https://carbonliteracy.com/). Carbon literacy is 'an awareness of the carbon costs and impacts of everyday activities and the ability and motivation to reduce emissions, on an individual, community and organisational basis.'
The heritage course is closely based on the Museum Carbon Literacy course developed by the Roots and Branches project (https://mduk.org.uk/roots-and-branches/#:~:text=The Toolkit contains a day's,your museum's environmental responsibility goals). The main differences are that some of the content, including, case studies, activities and references have a broader heritage context, rather than just museum based.
The course follows the classic classroom (virtual) delivery model of all carbon literacy courses with 8 hours training delivered over two or more days.
