Description

A303 SPARKFORD TO ILCHESTER DUALLING SCHEME
NOTIFICATION OF SUBCONTRACT EARTHWORKS PACKAGE

Galliford Try, as the South West Regional Delivery Partner are delivering the A303 Sparkford to Ilchester dualling project in the county of Somerset on behalf of Highways England. The project involves the design and construction of 5.6km of new dual lane all-purpose carriageway, connecting the existing dual carriageway at the Sparkford and Podimore Bypasses, therefore creating a continuous dual carriageway between Mere and the Podimore Roundabout.
To enable to successful delivery of the project we are seeking to procure a specialist earthworks subcontractor with experience of delivering major highways projects. The earthworks involve the excavation and deposition on site of approximately 700,000m3 of material with all associated earthworks activities. The project is forecast to commence on site in late summer 2020 and will take around 2 years to complete.
Subcontractors bidding for this opportunity will be required to demonstrate their capability and capacity for successfully delivering a project of this size and nature and provide examples of similar projects. Experience of working in similar ground conditions to those expected will be an advantage. This includes working in ground conditions with landslips present which comprise of soliflucted materials (periglacially derived) which have relict shear surfaces and have the potential to cause localised failures.
The successful bidder will be awarded a Subcontract to provide support up to the agreement of the Project Target Price with Highways England. The successful bidder will also be appointed as Preferred Bidder for the Construction Stage (PCF6), and subject to the agreement of final target price for the Earthworks, will deliver the Earthworks for the project without need for any further competition.
