Description
The nature of the works being tendered are careful building restoration and alterations works using traditional materials and building techniques within the historic fabric of a nationally important Grade 1 listed museum. The works are specified to be of the highest quality and are required to be carried out with the utmost care and attention to detail. Within the works, it is vital that the contractor effectively protects the adjoining fabric and museum artifacts that are to be retained in-site. It will also be essential that the contractor effectively seals the site area to prevent the spread of dust and building debris from the site. The successful contractor will be asked to work and coordinate with the in-house conservation team and an external conservator to carefully erect scaffolding and provide protection within the space. Elements of the building works will involve the contractor working with external conservators, for example the reinstatement of historic glazed panels within the new elements of joinery and the re-configuring of the columns at the head of the Basement Stairs. The contractor must make allowances within their programme for this work.
The proposed works include a CDP (Contractor's Design Portion) for the first fix electrical installation which includes the new lighting specified in the tender documents. The proposed design must be undertaken by an accredited NICEIC electrician and the installation must be NICEIC certified.
The contractor will be asked to attend site meetings with the employer and the architect on a fortnightly basis and will also be asked to liaise directly on a day-to- day basis with the Museum's House and Facilities Manager.
