Description

Metropolitan Housing Trust went through a strategic review of safeguarding carried out by an independent consultancy between August and November 2017.

The overall purpose was to provide independent expertise, challenge and rigour to address the needs of all the diverse services of Metropolitan and reflects an approach that is both internally and externally focused and complies with the statutory framework, government guidance and regulatory requirements.

Metropolitan has gone through some significant changes, there has been an expansion of services in both Care and Support and General Housing and whilst safeguarding has sat within Care and support it has now been recognised that there is a need for the whole workforce to be aware of risks and vulnerabilities of customers whatever part of the service they come into contact with.

The primary concern is to ensure that children and adults at risk are kept safe, and that there are adequately implemented safe systems and processes to prevent report and respond should any safeguarding issues arise.

One of the recommendations following the review 'Create a comprehensive safeguarding training and development strategy that defines expectations of staff through to higher levels of training for those with designated safeguarding lead roles and responsibilities'.

Following this review Learning & Organisation Development have been collaborating with Metropolitan's safeguarding lead to develop Safeguarding Training matrices and an L&OD strategy for safeguarding.

L&OD are currently developing a level 1 awareness module - combined children and adults which will become part of Metropolitan's core pathway for all staff and will be a mandatory requirement. In addition Metropolitan are procuring 2 x level 2 online modules - 1 each for Children and Adults, and these will be a mandatory requirement for frontline Care and Support and Housing staff.

In addition to the level 2 online modules, we need to provide face-to-face workshops for frontline Care and Support and Housing staff.
