Description
The North West Public Health Commissioning Team (PHCT) has direct commissioning responsibility for the delivery of the NHS Public Health Functions Agreements (s.7a) in Lancashire & South Cumbria and Cheshire & Merseyside. These programmes are as follows:
• Cancer Screening (breast, bowel and cervical)
• Non-cancer Screening (Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm (AAA) , Diabetic Eye Screening (DES) and Antenatal and Newborn (ANNB)
• Public Health Programmes for Prisons and other Places of Detention
• Immunisation programmes (childhood and school immunisations, seasonal flu, pertussis, shingles and pneumococcal)
• Child Health Information Services (CHIS).
Uptake of the flu vaccine in SCWs in Lancashire & South Cumbria and Cheshire & Merseyside is low with approximately one third of SCWs vaccinated, one third not vaccinated and one third with an unknown vaccination status.
The PHCT is seeking to commission an organisation to undertake insight work to support increasing uptake of the flu vaccination in SCWs. This will involve seeking the views of SCWs in Lancashire & South Cumbria and Cheshire & Merseyside to understand the barriers/reasons why they have not had the flu vaccination and solutions/reasons why they have accessed the vaccine. The information gained will be used to influence local programme delivery, and engagement with this group.
