Description
Norwich CCG & South Norfolk CCG seek to commission an Integrated Musculoskeletal (MSK) Orthopaedic Triage and Physiotherapy Service focussed on the provision of high-quality, well-coordinated care, designed around the needs of the local population. It should be provided in locations that are convenient and accessible to patients and have timings that are appropriate for patients' needs. The service will provide MSK Orthopaedic Triage (examination, assessment, diagnosis and where appropriate, treatment), MSK physiotherapy and occupational therapy services for patients aged 11 and over who have pain or other symptoms, restricted movement or reduced function from an MSK, orthopaedic or related symptom, set of symptoms, condition or illness.
This service should be designed around the specific needs of the population of Norwich CCG and South Norfolk CCG, be high-quality, well-coordinated and patient-centred.
The MSK Service should manage all MSK referrals and proactively support the up-skilling of GP practices making referrals. Clinically appropriate referrals will be triaged to physiotherapy, extended-scope physiotherapy assessment, orthopaedic surgeon assessment, pain clinic or other relevant services as appropriate, all in the community setting. The MSK Service should also integrate with local primary care clinicians who provide services such as joint injections, in the interest of enhancing the choice, convenience and flexibility available to patients. The integrated MSK Service should allow movement of patients seamlessly from one element to another, streamlining the experience for patients and reducing unnecessary waiting and inefficiency. The MSK Service should not be limited to treating patients, but also must be committed to empowering the population to self-care for their MSK issues and share responsibility of the management of their conditions, with a focus on education and lifestyle modification, as well as making effective use of local services.
Contract(s) will be awarded for an initial period from 01/10/16 to 30/09/19, with an option to extend for a further 24 months at the CCG's discretion. The combined potential value of the services is approximately £16.5m over the 5 year term.
