Description

The UK produces an annual Inventory of its Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions in order to meet international and domestic reporting requirements and provide evidence and support to UK government policy.
The Carbon Emissions Factors (CEFs), or the fraction of carbon emitted from burning fossil fuels, for fuels accounted for in the Inventory come from an assessment provided predominantly by industry and market sources. The last review of CEFs took place in 2004 and is now outdated and vulnerable to criticism. This risks the carbon factors being forcibly adjusted by the UNFCCC, leading to a significant increase in reported emissions.
The main outcome of this proposal will be a refreshed review report of CEFs used in the UK GHG Inventory (GHGI), with re-validated data to be integrated into future GHGI products.
