Description

Portsmouth City Council wish to commission a permanent public sculpture/installation on the theme of D Day 75 and Peace which will reflect the role Portsmouth played as the pivotal point for the departure of the troops 75 years ago and the instrumental role they played in bringing peace to Europe.

This is an exciting opportunity for an artist(s) to reinterpret Peace in today's environment in a way which also references the sacrifice which was made by the troops from many nationalities as they took part in the D Day landings 75 years ago and the surviving veteran's desire for reconciliation. It should be noted that the finished artwork will be located outdoors in an identified section of the landscaped area surrounding the D Day Story museum.

Applications are invited from individual artists, or artist teams with experience in working in the public realm to create a suitable response which is appropriate for the location next to the D-Day Story. It is expected that the artwork will be installed by 30th April 2020.

Design and production budget: £10,000
Deadline for applications: 20th November 2019 at midday
Selected artists appointed by: 29th November 2019

Full details are provided in the document set.

Please note: Applications are NOT to be submitted via Intend and must be sent to CulturalServices@portsmouthcc.gov.uk by the deadline.
