Description

1 Summary of Requirements

1.1 Walsall Council is inviting bids from suitably resourced and experienced suppliers, for the provision of a Highway Weed Control Programme.

1.2 The service is required by the Council's Clean and Green Services Section.

1.3 The Walsall Borough area has circa 1450 kilometres of highways which are required to be weed treated on an annual basis. The treatment is applicable to the whole width of the footpath including wall and fence footings, back edges, kerbs, channels, paved pedestrian areas, islands, furniture, walkways, passageways and back lanes. Spraying shall also include the full width of block paved and set paved carriageways including back lanes. An 'assignment' is defined as the complete weed treatment of all of Walsall's Highways.

1.4 The majority of the works can be carried out by some form of ride on machine but there are areas i.e. alleyways, high density housing and town centres which will require treatment using hand held/carried applicators.

1.5 Walsall Council will require the completion of 3 complete weed treatment assignments during the contract year.

1.6 The initial treatment will normally be required to commence during April depending on weather conditions, as the treatment must not be applied during wet weather. A second, and third treatment will be arranged in agreement with Walsall Council's representative.

1.7 The Council is looking to appoint one supplier for this Contract.

1.8 The procurement process being used is open tender.
