Description

The CCG intends to award a two year contract commencing 1.4.2021 to Innovations in Primary Care Ltd (IPC) for the provision of a local primary care workforce that is part of an integrated delivery model for the Western Sussex Hospitals Foundation Trust (WSHFT) co-located Urgent Treatment Centres (UTCs) at Worthing and St Richard's hospitals. The intention is to test out a new approach to workforce development by introducing portfolio GP roles into the local system. The additional primary care shifts offered within this contract will form part of the UTC capacity and will also form part of this portfolio opportunity.
The UTCs provide a 12 hour, seven days a week GP led service managing the minor illness and injury pathways, previously seen in the A&Es and the additional primary care activity outside of core GP hours, currently being provided by IPC.
Close working with A&E to manage the front door demand is crucial to ensure the best outcomes for patients. Staff rotate through both A&E and the UTC to maintain/ increase skillsets.
The UTCs are also part of the wider Integrated Urgent Care (IUC) system across Sussex that is a networked model via digital enablers to provide patients with access to clinical triage and direct booking into the right service. This model supports the whole system to become more resilient by reducing fragmentation and simplifying access for the public.
