Description

Within the Directorate of Education, Work and Skills, the Bridge GM Careers Hub works with schools and college to support their delivery of integrated careers education. In addition to providing and Enterprise Coordinator from the Bridge GM team to work with the institutions' Careers Leaders, we have a local hub fund intended to support the Hub in delivering its goals and to offer the opportunity to fund activities which benefit schools and colleges across the Hub. The Hub has expanded from 208 to 226 institutions. 31 of these are SEND institutions including the additional 10 onboarded in 2021-22. This represents approx. 55% of the expansion.

Bridge GM wishes to support inclusion schools' careers education with resources and employer led opportunities. The project is funded for 12 months with the options of extension dependant on future funding.

Project Scope

Part 1:
Create audio-visual content of short films to showcase young people with SEND & a manager/colleague talk about their experience of the workplace. Filming to be on location at the respective workplaces of our participants.
Each pairing will take part in 2 films:

• Film 1 - will see them describe their job role (industry knowledge) and how they got there
(Transition from education to work)
• Film 2 - will see them set a task related to their role/industry, that can be used in a variety of classroom settings

The films will increase the breadth of opportunities for young people with SEND to experiences relevant and aspirational workplace settings and feel inspired to make positive choices about their futures.
Films will enhance the GMACS platform (Greater Manchester Apprenticeship and Careers Service).
Platform analytics will indicate user engagement and user journey.

Part 2:
Commission programmes of employer-led learning sessions to develop the skills of young people with SEND to access the workplace and have the skills to do so.

The programme to include:
o Learning that is stage appropriate to the SEND students' learning journey
o Develops employability skills to promote life readiness and positive destinations
o Develop entrepreneurial, digital sector skills such as creative thinking, problem solving, storytelling, business modelling and technical skills via the creation of a digital product/service
o Provides meaningful employer encounters to build confidence and talent
o Links to the digital sector as a GM growth sector
o Aligns to secondary curriculum design and wider skills development
o Has a digital output that will support to the schools' social enterprise work and/or encourages SEND education to be outward facing.
o Create models of digital learning that be sustainably replicated by teaching staff

There will be 15 programmes of approximately 5 days. Led by a digital industry practitioner/employer, these will be delivered to 15 different institutions
