Description
The Council and its ancillary arms (such as arm's length bodies and/or wholly or partly owned subsidiaries and partner organisations) invited suppliers to quote and awarded a contract to a suitable supplier to complete the fit out of a new community museum - The Women's Museum in Barking Wharf.
The space is currently an empty shell and core on the ground floor of a new housing development in Barking Wharf Sq. The new space (139sqm) will be used for exhibitions and displays, office space, education sessions and space for community events and activities.
The space will open to all residents of London Borough of Barking and Dagenham and those visiting the borough. The Women's Museum is linked to the borough's accredited local museum at Valence House.
- The aim is to create a new exhibition and community space that maximises the space available and ensures environmental and sustainable choices are made wherever possible.
- To develop a space that will serve as a platform to showcase the history, heritage, stories and role of women from both the local area and beyond.
- To create a new learning and education environment for residents and local community participation that can support conversation and collaboration and provide opportunities for wider engagement with a wider audience and visitors alike.
- To create a new inclusive community space that is welcoming and safe space for people of all identities, abilities and backgrounds to support conversation about critical issues relevant to the collective and diverse experiences for residents, audiences, visitors, networks and creative activity. The Women's Museum will build on our work to support the empowerment of women and girls.
