The Cemetery is sited at the end of Padbury Avenue at the far side of the roundabout. It is being administered and managed by Filey Town Council.
The entrance is through a set of large double wrought iron gates, leading to a small inner roundabout area, which is grassed with a central shrubbery. This area is used for the strewing of cremated remains. To the southern boundary is a small area, which can be used for the storage of limited amounts of topsoil. The access road is bordered by a rose bed to either side and a line of flowering trees.
The burial areas are sectioned off, firstly by beech hedging and secondly into denominations. Separate areas being for Church of England, Non-Conformist and Roman Catholic. In addition, cremated remains also have their burial sections within the denominational sections. All burials take place with the feet of the deceased facing eastwards, therefore the "headstones" are not necessarily sited to the head of the grave, but are placed back to back for ease of maintenance.
To the eastern boundary is a small storage hut for the convenience of the Contractor which contains the grass matting, spoil box and hydraulic grave shorings which are all the property of the Town Council and for which the Contractor is made responsible during the contract term.
The water supply is to be found adjacent to the southern boundary fencing. The fencing is the responsibility of the Town Council.
Tenders must be submitted in line with the guidance in the tender pack:
i. An illustration of the way in which the Contractor proposes to carry out the Contract, including his management and supervisory structure;
ii. Details of 2 previous contracts where references can be sought;
iii. a detailed Risk Assessment which highlights all risks/hazards and control measures for all associated tasks which complies with current Health & Safety legislation, and;
iv. a copy of your current Public and Employer Liability Insurance.
All the documents must be placed in an envelope, which must then be sealed. The envelope shall in no circumstances bear any name or mark indicating the name of the sender. Tenders should be sent by registered post, recorded delivery service, or delivered by hand and addressed to the Town Clerk, TENDER CONTRACT - THE LAWNS CEMETERY, Council Offices, 52A Queen Street, Filey, YO14 9HE.
