Description

The Royal Surrey NHS Foundation Trust propose to develop a new-build facility for Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) and Computed Tomography Imaging (CTI) at the Milford Hospital, Tuesley Lane, Godalming, Surrey GU7 1UF. The building is single-storey with a link corridor to the existing Rehabilitation Building at Milford Hospital. The building also has plant rooms and a service yard with an acoustic fence to accommodate the mechanical and electrical services at the rear. Associated works include the construction of a new access road from Tuesley Lane that will be initially used for construction, and on completion will be re-surfaced for maintenance, servicing, deliveries and access for waste-bin vehicles. Also proposed is the provision of additional car parking for 18 cars, 3 motorbikes, and 6 bicycle racks, the erection

of an electricity substation, and the installation of foul drainage and attenuation soakaway for SUDS drainage

The site was considered suitable and viable for this facility as it would help the Royal Surrey NHS Foundation Trust in its quest to be become a pre-eminent cancer hub in the South-East of England. Milford Hospital already provides plain X-Ray and ultrasound facilities and the location of MRI and CT diagnostic imaging will suitably complement the existing facilities and widen the scope of available diagnostic imaging services across the Royal Surrey Hospital sites.

Milford Hospital lies in a site of approximately 2.3hectares. It accommodates a 1980s ward block known as the Rehabilitation Building having an area of 1,764m2, a 1½ storey newly refurbished X-Ray block of 122m2, a two-storey Victorian building for Community Services Management offices, a small, detached building shed and a redundant building. The site for the new diagnostics centre is the grassed area to the east of the Rehabilitation Building and bounded by a wooded strip to the north and the east towards Tuesley Lane.
