Description

Scutts Bridge is a historic packhorse bridge crossing the River Frome on the edge of the village of Rode in the Parish of Tellisford, Mendip. The bridge is a Grade II listed building, reference 1058903. Scutts bridge is constructed of local stone with three arches, two large cutwaters and stone parapets with cock and hen coping.

The bridge connects public footpaths FR 15/3A (Tellisford Parish) and FR 13/7 (Rode Parish) running between the villages of Rode and Woolverton.

The bridge is suffering from the damage caused by vegetation including mortar loss and open jointing. In addition there are fractures and missing masonry. There is also significant scour to the abutments and cutwaters.

Works include removing the vegetation across the entire structure, treating where necessary, raking out old mortar where damaged or missing, re-pointing, replacing missing masonry and scour protection.
