Description

This proposed piece of work seeks to explore the capabilities and benefits of Distributed Ledger Technology for Export Health Certification. This will support the British brand and make it easier for farmers and Food Business Operators to meet complex Rules of Origin with third countries.

The work builds on the recommendations of the Elliott Review to increase consumer trust and enabling to be traced back to its source.

The FSA wants to test whether the capabilities and innovations around Distributed Ledger Technology (DLT) can:
- Enhance traceability of the supply chain;
- Enable users (Food Business Operators, Farmers, FSA) to view relevant data digitally;
- Remove duplication in reporting and paperwork required for export certification;
- Use smart contracts to ensure automation in the process where feasible;
- Conduct parallel discovery work to validate user needs

Our expected outcome will be a scalable working pilot that tests our hypothesis but can be built and developed further with industry participants to include additional products and volume.
