Description
Interdisciplinary Life Sciences are a core priority for the University, reflected by a history of strategic investment in the Institute for Life Sciences (£48M) and the recent development of a Life Sciences Strategy.
Over half of the University's new research income is in the life sciences (£125M of a total £243M in the period 2014-2016). In REF2014, 97% of our research was judged as world leading or internationally excellent, while 90% of our research impact was rated world leading. Internationally, the University ranks within the top 100 in the world in the QS rankings.
Nationally, it plays a leading role in setting the research agenda, including through its membership of the Rosalind Franklin Institute and the Alan Turing Institute. We are at the vanguard of life sciences and translational biomedical research with a Wellcome Trust Clinical Research Facility (£15M), NIHR Biomedical Research Centre (£14.5M) and Centre for Cancer Immunology (£25M) that provide a world-class translational environment.
The Life Sciences Strategy identifies imaging and biophotonics, musculoskeletal health, immune and host response, as well as life course as particular areas of excellence and established critical mass within the University; these technology development and application themes will benefit from the proposed integrated imaging system.
The project itself, aims to categorise the size distributions of a range of nano-size carriers, either produced naturally or synthetically that may be useful in the treatment of diagnosis of disease relevant to antimicrobial resistance.
The project will consist of the supply, installation and training in use of a Nano-analysis suite of instruments.
