Description

DHSC wish to contract with an appropriately qualified provider that is respected by the social work profession, to embed the latest Capability Statements and CPD frameworks - for (a) social work with people with learning disabilities, and separately, for (b) autistic people. This contract will complete the initial work on Capability Statements and CPD Frameworks for social workers who wish to gain specialist knowledge of these areas of social work with adults.

The Capability Statements set out the knowledge, skills and values that social workers need to work well with client group and their carers. Continuous Professional Development (CPD) pathway that sets out how front-line social workers can learn and develop, and be supported to acquire the capabilities set out in the CS. The CS will also be adopted by Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) and training providers who educate and train new and qualified social workers.

This new project will use these products (a) and (b) to further embed the previously developed best practice and innovative ideas.

The work is essential to embedding the Care Act 2014, Mental Capacity Act 2005, Mental Health Act 2007, Human Rights Act and other relevant legislation and providing the basis for continuous improvement for the social work profession. The work is part of the drive for continuous improvement of the social work profession and social work reform. The work is set out as a Departmental priority approved by Ministers in the 2019 Chief Social Workers Report and represents a continuing commitment to support people with learning disabilities and autistic people. Internally to DHSC, this project will be jointly funded by DHSC's Chief Social Worker and the Mental Health Division.
