Description

Dover District Council wishes to select and appoint a suitable contractor for the alterations, repairs and refurbishment at Dover Town Hall, Maison Dieu.

The aim of the project is to 'reawaken this gothic fantasy' by creating a thriving and resilient cultural venue and reopen the building to visitors and the community. The project will place the Maison Dieu back at the heart of the Dover community, restore its position as an international stepping stone and act as an anchor for Dover's regeneration. The proposed works are summarised as follows:-

• Conservation of Grade 1 listed building and a Scheduled Monument, parts of which are at risk of serious deterioration.

• Creation of a new cultural venue and visitor attraction which includes, new welcoming visitor entrance and lift installation, opening the Stone Hall to the public to provide interpretation and communicate and engage the public with the history of the building and Dover.

• Revealing and recreating the significant Burges decorative scheme.

• Creation of new high quality self-catering accommodation and storage over three floors in the Mayor's Parlour suite.

• Providing new WC's, cloakrooms, kitchen (with new lift provision) and other back of house facilities to improve the way that the building functions for visitors. The works have been designed to allow for independent use of the Stone Hall and Connaught Hall and the separate use of other spaces, such as the Council Chamber.

• General updating of all services installations throughout the building.

• 'Shell & Core' works to the Old Gaol to provide a new café unit for a third party to fit-out and operate.

Expressions of Interest and completed Standard Selection Questionnaires (SSQ) are to be submitted electronically via the Kent Business Portal www.kentbusinessportal.org.uk by no later then 12:00PM 4th November 2021.
