Description

A tender opportunity for the second phase of wetland improvements to Smelly Brook. The works involve the excavation of a new Reed bed adjacent to Smelly Brook within Babbs Mill Park and Nature Reserve. Excavated material is to be transported via a haul route to another section of the park (Average 650 metres distance) where it is to be deposited, spread and blade graded. The new Reed bed is to be planted with Phragmites australis and there is a small amount of marginal and open water planting. The works also include the supply and construction of a double flight of informal natural stone steps and the supply and placement of new natural stone baffles/channel deflectors. The receptor site (where excavated material has been spread is to be sown with wildflower meadow seed as a separate contract.
Funding for Smelly Brook 2 wetland improvements has been secured through the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) Priority 6: Preserving and protecting the environment and promoting resource efficiency.
