Description
Net Zero Accelerator market engagement session, to be held online via MS Teams from 10.00am - 11.00am on Tuesday 15 August 2023.
The education estate represents 36% of all English public sector building emissions and schools alone spend over £640m a year on energy. The education sector is one of the most active in the construction market in the UK.
Our ambition is to set up a new "loan and delivery" scheme to finance and deliver practical improvements to the education estate. The scheme will create estate efficiencies and unlock savings to deliver a positive return on investment - the "Net Zero Accelerator."
We are looking for partners to deliver a 'proof of concept' that will demonstrate the financial viability of a hierarchy of decarbonisation interventions, including condition and fabric improvements, adaptation measures, energy efficiency and energy generation.
The market engagement session will provide more detail on the scale of our ambition and give an outline of our requirements for the feasibility study, which launches in early autumn. We will be joined by Sharon McHale from DfE's Sustainability and Climate Change Unit who will provide further background on DfE's ambition to achieve net zero in the school estate.
Meeting the challenge of fighting climate change plays a significant part in creating a safer, better, greener world for future generations. We are working to ensure the education estate leads the way in the journey towards net zero and a more sustainable future.
